Josephine Hock (she\/her) is a puppeteer, director and theatre educator specialising in documentary theatre of objects.\u2028

She was born in a small village in Thuringia and, after finishing school, worked at the Buergerbuehne of the Staatsschauspiel Dresden. She then studied Contemporary Puppetry at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin, graduating with distinction in 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since then, she has been working as a freelancer at both municipal theatres and in the independent theatre scene. Her productions are staged at various venues throughout the German-speaking world and invited to international festivals. They explore themes such as village structures in East Germany, talking about sex or domestic work, and make use of object theatre techniques.\u2028
She has received numerous awards for her work, including first place at the Freisprung Festival in Rostock (2019) and the Berlin Children\u2019s Theatre Prize IKARUS (2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She regularly runs workshops<\/a> for children, young people and adults on the theme of object theatre and has worked in this context at, for example, the Federal Academy for Cultural Education in Wolfenb\u00fcttel, the GRIPS Theatre, the Schaubude Berlin, the Schauspiel K\u00f6ln and at various theatres in the semi-professional scene in Thuringia.
She is also a member of the Geheimen Dramaturgischen Gesellschaft (Secret Dramaturgical Society)<\/a> and, together with them, organises discussion forums at theatre festivals, conferences and after performances.\u2028\u2028

Since 2023, Josephine has been a lecturer in object theatre at the Rostock University of Music and Drama.\u2028\u2028

She lives and works in Berlin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
